It’s going to be Chinese New Year in 2 weeks’ time! Last year, we celebrated this festival with a Chinese New Year theme Learning Shelf, filled with many hands on fun learning activities. This year, it’s the year of the Pig and I created this Pig Chinese Learning Pack for my children to learn the word 猪.
Bonus: This printable can be found on my subscriber-only Printable page. As a bonus for joining my mailing list, you get access to ALL my printables. Get them here>>
Before doing these activities, we read storybooks to understand the origins of the Chinese Zodiac signs and why it’s the Year of the Pig this year. My kids love these 2 storybooks at home – 1) 十二生肖的故事 by 赖马 and 2) The Great Race by Dawn Casey.
There are 3 activities in this printable pack: 1) dot the word 猪, 2) find the word 猪 maze activity and 3) 猪 word puzzle.
Activity 1: Dot the Word 猪
Using dot paint, dot stickers or finger paint, invite your child to dot the Chinese word 猪. For older children, you can also place this page on a cork board and give your child some push pins to push into each dot. I will also teach the older children to follow the sequence of the strokes as they push in the pins.
Activity 2: Find the Word 猪 Maze
Ask your child to help mummy pig find its baby pig by following the word 猪. Once your child finds the word, dot it with dot marker or circle it with a marker.
Activity 3: 猪 Word Puzzle
Invite your child to cut out the puzzle pieces by cutting along the dotted lines. Young children may need help with cutting. Then ask your child to recreate the word and the picture of the pig by pasting the pieces on the empty boxes on page 5. For young children, instead of using the empty boxes template on page 5, print out another page 4 and ask them to match and paste the puzzle pieces in the boxes.
I hope your children have fun learning with these printables. Also, check out all the rest of the fun Chinese New Year activities from our CNY shelf too. 新年快乐,万事如意!
All of these activities look so fun! I’m so excited to print them out today for my kids! Thank you for creating and sharing! 新年快乐!
Thanks
