Materials for Making Sticky Notes Ice Cream Math Activities

Getting Ready for this Ice Cream Math Activity
- Attach two pieces of paper together to form one long piece.
- Draw an ice cream cone at the bottom
- Prepare 12 pieces of sticky notes in two colors. Draw a scoop of ice cream on each sticky note.
One Set-up, 5 Math Activities for Kids
Counting Activity
Suitable for younger preschoolers (3 to 4years old)
- Invite your child to roll one dice.
- Paste the sticky notes according to the number shown on the dice.

Addition Activity
Suitable for older preschoolers (5 to 6years old)
- Write the math equation (see photo) right at the top. The colors of empty boxes follow the colors of the sticky notes.
- Invite your child to roll two dice. Place one dice in each box.
- Paste the sticky notes according to the number shown on the dice and the color of the box.
- Finally ask your child to count the total number of scoops and complete the math equation.
Subtraction Activity
Suitable for older preschoolers (5 to 6years old)
- Place all 12 scoops of sticky notes ice cream on top of the cone.
- Invite your child to roll a die.
- Take away the number of scoops as shown on the dice.
- Count the number of scoops of ice cream that are left.
- Repeat until there are no more scoops of ice cream left on the cone.
Pattern Activity
Suitable for preschoolers (3 to 6years old)
- Place 2 to 3 pieces of sticky notes on the cone, using basic patterns like AB, AAB or ABB.
- Invite your child to continue the pattern with the rest of the sticky notes.
Multiplication Activity
Suitable for school-aged kids (6 to 9years old)
- Write the cost of each scoop of ice cream on each sticky note. For example, in this photo, the pink scoop of ice cream costs $2 each while the green ones costs $3 each.
- Invite your child to roll two dice. Place one dice in each box.
- Paste the sticky notes according to the number shown on the dice and the color of the box.
- Finally ask your child to count the total cost of the ice cream.

Invite your child to be the owner of an ice cream shop and you pretend to be the customer. Place 'order' for ice cream by throwing the dice. Invite your child to take your 'order' and serve you the sticky notes ice cream based on the numbers on the dice.
