CUTEST DIY FISHING GAME
I was going to host an Ocean theme play date and I really wanted a fishing game. Yep, I wanted the fishing game more than my children. Using pool noodle came to my mind because I wanted the ‘fish’ to be able to be in water.
I had to bribe my son to give up one of his pool noodles for this project.
True story. Well, because children must have the thing, which they haven’t play with forever, when you ask for it. I promised him a fun fishing game (and a cookie) the next day and I got the pool noodle.
What do the children learn from this game?
There is so much hand eye coordination going on as the children try to align the swinging magnets to the fish. Interestingly, they figured out mostly by themselves where the magnets should touch to ‘catch’ their fish. Such a great game to intrigue children with the magic of magnetism!
What ages is this fishing game for?
2 and up!
What do we need?
- Pool noodle
- Paper clips
- Pipe cleaners
- Googly eyes (optional)
- Magnetic clasps
- Sticks as fishing rods – I used marshmallow roasting sticks.
- Hot glue
The fish may look fancy but I made all 12 in less than 30 minutes.
Here’s how I make them
- Cut the pool noodle up, each piece is around 2 inches thick.
- Cut small slits at front and back.
- Add paper clip and pipe cleaner (tail).
- Glue on goggly eyes (optional).
- Make the fish rod with a stick, string and magnetic clasp.
This fishing game was such a big hit during our Ocean theme playdate!
